SAILCLOTH backpack

Jan '19

I ran into some unique backpack ideas - Mafia Bags is one that uses recycled sailcloth in their bags…

This is a proof of concept, really. I bought a used sail (expensive), double layered each panel using Super 77 (never again), and stitched it into a rectangular backpack (difficult).

The things I do like are that the opening sits against my back, the double straps (backpacks > duffles), and how awesome the damn thing looks. I use it every day to haul my BJJ and gym gear!

Next iteration will be a single ply with a more sensible zipper.

Ask me about:

  • the damn zipper

  • how it’s held up

  • weird looks and comments from the peanut gallery
